OUR MISSION

Our mission is to provide wellness programs through play and sports to children in underfunded communities, fostering inclusivity, advocacy, and effective communication.

OUR REASON

We work in multiple LAUSD schools through our for-profit, UFIT, but often see that schools in greatest need cannot afford our services or face inconsistent funding. This led us to create our nonprofit, IHOW, to bridge the gap and provide consistent, inclusive and quality physical education. In the underfunded South District, we focus on offering certified PE for elementary students (ages 5–11), sports training for middle schoolers (ages 12–14), and teaching kids the joy of play. What was once freely available 30 years ago is now scarce, and we are committed to giving this generation the opportunities they deserve.

Our Goal: Is to provide for the schools that are grossly underfunded - certified PE for elementary students.

Approximately 1.3 million low-income students in Los Angeles County, particularly from African-American and Latino communities, lack access to quality education, with some areas experiencing child poverty rates as high as 68%.

Our Approach

HERE’S HOW WE HELP THEM:

LOCAL

All IHOW interventions are based on regional needs and are led by local coaches and professionals. We collaborate with community organizations and institutions, committing to the highest ethical standards.

SHIELDED

IHOW takes every measure to ensure safe and comfortable spaces where both students and staff can engage in learning and activities with a sense of security.

EXPERT

Our coaches and PE teachers, with long-term experience, are qualified and certified to design, oversee, and implement school programs that promote lasting growth and success for students.

OUR TEAM

IHOW is a team of dedicated, highly experienced coaches and PE teachers with a multifaceted approach to health and fitness. All IHOW staff members have proven track records of delivering diverse health and fitness programs to individuals, schools, and communities. IHOW recognizes the value of a diverse team, as a workforce of skilled individuals with different backgrounds and experiences can better serve our school’s student population. Having coaches and teachers who resemble and can effectively communicate with students promotes social cohesion between IHOW staff and students.
